Superintendent Remarks

  • As everyone is well aware, the first week of February brought us a lot of snow and three snow days. We are not a district that typically calls multiple snow days, so to have three in a row is very unique.

  • I continue to visit our buildings and chat with students and staff. One particular highlight was having the opportunity to attend the LHWHS Signing Day for our student-athletes. I’m always incredibly impressed with our signees and the universities from which they have accepted scholarships.

  • If you have not had the opportunity to drive by LMS, Old Bonhomme, or Spoede, please do so as our Prop L construction projects at those three schools are making progress. It won’t be long until several of our new additions are under-roof.

  • We are getting closer to finalizing necessary items to begin our work at Reed and Conway. I’m excited to hear what our construction partners at SM Wilson have to present tonight.

  • I’m also looking forward to presenting tonight with Ann Body, our district lead nurse. As quickly as our COVID cases spiked after winter break, they are quickly dropping. The mitigation plan we will present tonight is our best effort to begin reducing our mitigating measures based on data and working with medical professionals. I want to thank Ann for her tireless work. I also want to thank our Board for its countless volunteer hours and reviewing our plan.

  • I know we have several in attendance tonight with different views on what our next steps should look like. It’s important that our community knows that each and every voice is valued. Please note that the plan being presented tonight is a 30-day plan that will be reviewed, altered, and changed where needed. I’ve been in education for many years, but I’ve also been a parent for many years, including being a parent to a high school student who has not had a normal year of school since he started his high school experience. I understand how difficult the past few years have been for our students, staff, and parents. I feel honored to be in a district where education is valued and differences of opinion are respected. I want to thank our community for its patience, understanding, and empathy toward each other.
