Board Briefs from Feb. 14, 2017 Business Meeting and Work Session

This information includes highlights of information received by the Ladue Schools Board of Education at the Feb. 14, 2017 Business Meeting and Work Session.  This is an unofficial record.  Official minutes of each Board meeting are posted on the district website and are available for viewing at the Administrative Center after the Board approves them, typically two weeks after the meeting.


Superintendent Remarks
  • Superintendent Dr. Donna Jahnke reminded the Board and those attending the meeting that Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 will be an all-day professional development day for staff, with no students in attendance.  The entire staff will spend the day doing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training.  The day will begin with Dr. Terry Jones of the University of Missouri - St. Louis sharing historical perspectives regarding the experience of being black in St. Louis, and consultants from Educational Equity Consultants providing training on implicit bias.  In the afternoon, staff will return to their individual buildings for additional training with their fellow coworkers.
  • The Ladue Horton Watkins High School spring play will be Little Women the Musical and runs from Feb. 23 - 25 at the Performing Arts Center of the high school.  Performances begin at 7 p.m.  For ticket information, please call 314-993-6447.  
ACTION ITEM
High School Building Project Bid Approvals. Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance Dr. Jason Buckner presented, and the Board approved, the administration’s recommendation for awarding three bids related to the high school renovation project. The bid process was coordinated by S.M. Wilson, the district’s construction management firm.

  • Insulated Core Metal Wall Panels (Work Package 2):  Kuenz Heating and Sheet Metal for $935,329
  • Terracotta Clay Tile Rain Screen (Work Package 4): George Wies Co. for  $694,710
  • Fiber Cement Panel Rain Screen (Work Package 5): Waterhout Construction Co. for $420,100

In addition, the Board approved charges from Ameren, also related to the high school renovation project and detailed in the documents linked to the header of this section.  

INFORMATION ITEMS

Principals’ Presentation of Building Improvement Plans. Board members broke into smaller groups and the district’s building principals and directors rotated amongst the groups to outline key initiatives underway in their buildings.

2017 Summer Programs. Director of Student Services Dr. Derrick Wallace presented the 2017 Summer School Program plan which incorporates targeted interventions and project-based learning at all levels for students who need additional support.  The plan includes a recovery program for high school students, a K-8 program and an LECC camp.

The next Board of Education meeting will be a Business Meeting on Feb. 27, 2017 at 7 p.m. at the Administrative Center, 9703 Conway Road.  Tentative agenda items include the following.
